View Specifications >Compressed air is widely recognized as the "fourth utility" in modern manufacturing, powering critical systems across food processing, pharmaceutical packaging, precision automotive plants, and heavy fabrication. However, atmospheric air drawn into any compressor contains significant ambient moisture in the form of water vapor. As air is compressed, its volumetric capacity to hold water decreases, raising the partial pressure of water vapor and prompting condensation.
Without proper thermal treatment, this moisture precipitates inside the air lines, leading to critical failures: corrosion of steel pipes, gumming of pneumatic valves, short-circuiting of smart instrumentation, and contamination of end-use products. The primary mechanism to prevent this is the application of a Refrigerated Air Dryer.
Refrigerated air dryers cool the incoming compressed air streams to a stable temperature threshold (typically 3°C to 10°C / 37°F to 50°F), forcing entrained water vapor to condense into liquid droplets that are systematically purged. By maintaining a pressure dew point (PDP) of Class 4 under ISO 8573-1:2010 standards, refrigerated dryers cover over 85% of industrial air-treatment applications more economically than desiccant dryers.
The global refrigerated air dryer industry is experiencing a transition driven by carbon footprint reduction initiatives, eco-friendly refrigerants, and intelligent IoT integration. Our design engineers leverage next-generation configurations to ensure optimal coefficient of performance (COP) ratios.
Unlike traditional non-cycling dryers that run the refrigerant compressor continuously, cycling dryers utilize a thermal mass fluid (or phase-change materials) to store cooling capacity. The compressor shuts down when load is light, yielding substantial power savings under variable load profiles.
By modulating the speed of the hermetic refrigeration compressor based on live inlet flow and temperature sensors, VSD air dryers dynamically match cooling demand. This avoids thermal shock and minimizes internal pressure drop across the heat exchanger.
In adherence to the Kigali Amendment and regional F-gas regulations, our production lines have successfully migrated from R-22 and R-134a towards ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) alternatives such as R-407C, R-410A, and next-generation hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs).
| Performance Matrix | Traditional Non-Cycling Dryers | Cycling (Thermal Mass) Dryers | VSD Integrated Dryers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) | Low entry cost | Moderate to High | Premium investment |
| Operational Cost (OPEX) | Constant consumption regardless of load | Highly efficient at partial loads | Lowest energy consumption dynamically |
| Dew Point Stability | Stable (fluctuates within ±1.5°C) | Slight fluctuation as fluid cycles | Exceptional stability (±0.5°C accuracy) |
| Recommended Applications | Continuous, high-load factories | Intermittent shifts, seasonal output | Highly variable, advanced digital lines |
Different operating climates and vertical sectors demand precise configurations to achieve the target Pressure Dew Point without over-engineering operating parameters. Below are the typical localized deployment architectures.
In tropical industrial zones (such as Southeast Asia, Middle East, and portions of Latin America), ambient compressed air temperatures exiting the compressor often exceed 60°C. Standard dryers fail in these environments. We engineer custom configurations utilizing a built-in pre-cooler exchanger to step down temperatures before entering the primary chilling evaporator core.
Saltwater corrosion represents a critical threat factor. Our OEM marine configuration series features epoxy-coated copper tubes, stainless steel heat exchanger frames, and IP66 marine-grade control enclosures designed to withstand harsh offshore environments.
To meet zero-risk contamination profiles, dry air is coupled with downstream particulate and coalescing filtration, preventing oil carryover and vapor condensation in sterile lines. In such scenarios, the Shanghai Honest Compressor Co., Ltd. oil-free rotary series integrates seamlessly with modular high-efficiency refrigerated air dryers.
Established in early 2004 as a British-owned enterprise, Shanghai Honest Compressor Co., Ltd. has developed into a premier manufacturing exporter of twin-screw air systems in China. Centered at NO. 355 Jiajian Branch Road, Malu Town, Jiading District, Shanghai, our manufacturing campus houses state-of-the-art rotor machining centers, environmental testing chambers, and advanced assembly halls.
Beyond our standard portfolio of 3kW to 480kW twin-screw systems, we serve as a major industrial partner providing customized air solutions. Our capabilities include low/medium/high pressure piston systems, dry-type oil-free units, gas separation systems, refrigerant compressors, cold dryers (refrigerated air dryers), adsorption dryers, and micro-oil vacuum pumps.
By blending British design heritage with highly efficient manufacturing infrastructure in China, we deliver robust OEM/ODM configurations to major global brands, backed by CE and ISO certifications.

According to MRFR analysis, the dry vacuum pump market size is valued at US$ 5.97 billion in 2024. The dry vacuum pump market is expected to grow from US$ 6.17 billion in 2025 to US$ 8.28 billion in 2034, registering a steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
As micro-electronic fabrication facilities and high-precision packaging operations look for clean, dry, oil-free vacuum environments, they increasingly depend on integrated scroll and dry-type screw vacuum pumps to prevent exhaust backstreaming. Our R&D division in Shanghai continues to align our manufacturing capacities with these macro market shifts.
To size a refrigerated dryer correctly, apply correction factors to your compressor's maximum flow rate based on three variables: actual inlet air temperature, working operating pressure, and ambient air temperature. The sizing formula is: Corrected Capacity = Nominal Dryer Flow × C1 (Inlet Temp) × C2 (Ambient Temp) × C3 (Working Pressure). Ensuring these operating parameters match your worst-case summer conditions will prevent premature high dew-point trips.
Non-cycling dryers run their refrigeration compressor continuously, using a hot gas bypass valve to redirect refrigerant when demand falls. This maintains a steady dew point but consumes constant electrical energy. Cycling dryers utilize an intermediate thermal mass fluid; the compressor chills this fluid and then shuts down, drawing on the cold storage mass to dry the air during lower demand. This reduces operating costs in factories with varying shifts.
If the dryer shows normal operating temperatures but water is still present downstream, the issue is typically a failed automatic condensate drain valve. If the drain valve is clogged or stuck shut, the separated water accumulates in the heat exchanger and is re-entrained into the compressed air line. Check the drain valve and line strainer, and ensure the bypass valve system is fully closed.
Refrigerated dryers are designed to remove water vapor, not oil vapor. To remove liquid oil aerosols and gaseous hydrocarbons, you must install particulate and coalescing line filters, along with activated carbon vapor filters, downstream from the air dryer. For high-purity applications, starting with an oil-free screw air compressor is the safest approach to prevent oil contamination.
